Eskdale League - May 17

Away vs. Glaisdale
Lost by 2 wickets

Castleton travelled to Glaisdale on a rainy Saturday hopeful of a morale boosting victory. What they got was the complete opposite.
Lee Nesfield won the toss and elected to bat first in what could have been said to be favourable bowling conditions, yet this did not affect the openers Shaun Dowson and the captain, as the compiled a superb opening partnership of 120, Shaun making his way to 70 and Lee to 43. The good work was carried on by Paul Melling and Richard Thompson, with 34 and 27 respectively. A mini collapse stopped them going past the 200 mark, as Castleton made 198ao.
Glaisdale got off to a bright start with the openers making good scores, yet Castleton found several breakthroughs to leave Glaisdale at 140-7 after 30 overs, which should have been an easy victory. Yet Stu Dowson found his form and pushed Glaisdale on, leaving 15 needed off the last 2 overs. A 6 off the first ball of the penultimate over made them favourites, and they ended up needing 2 off the last ball of the innings. A pull shot over midwicket’s head gave them the runs they needed, resulting in jubilation for Glaisdale, and despair for Castleton.

Castleton 198ao 38 overs Glaisdale 199-8 40 overs

MoM – Shaun Dowson – superb 70 at the top of the order was still not enough to secure victory.
