Evening League - May 14

Away vs. Whitby Rugby Club
Lost by 20 runs

Castleton travelled to Whitby to face the Rugby Club in near arctic conditions looking for their first win on a Wednesday night. Captain Dave Heldt lost the toss and Castleton were forced to field first, and Whitby RC batted through a comfortable innings punctuated with regular wickets from James O’Donnell and the returning Ben Sherwood. Usual mainstay of the attack Richard Thompson took some hammer, going for 31 off his 4 overs. Whitby RC made their way to 100 off their 20 overs as they set Castleton a difficult yet realistic task.
That task was made a whole lot harder when Richard Thompson, not having his best game of cricket, was bowled off the first ball of the innings, leaving Castleton an uphill task to win. Wickets kept falling as Paul Lawton compiled a useful 26 at one end, and Castleton were bowled out for 80 when debutant Matthew Jackson made a first ball duck.

Whitby RC 100-5 20 overs Castleton 80ao 19 overs

MoM – Paul Lawton – was only bright spot with the bat as the chase faltered.
