Eskdale League - May 5

Home vs. Westerdale
Lost by 2 wickets

A closely-fought, low scoring game ended with Westerdale pipping Castleton in the last couple of overs to claim local bragging rights. Incessant rain the week before softened the pitch to such an extent that a score of 100 would be very competitive.
Castleton started their innings cautiously, with 10 runs being scored in the first 9 overs, yet no wickets were lost as Westerdale strained for a breakthrough. Captain Lee Nesfield just started to get into stride when he was caught at point, then James O'Donnell ran out Tom Hepburn and the innings started to unravel. Jonny 'Wildman' Williams hit a straight 6 off the ineffective Mike Thompson, but the batting highlights were few and far between as Castleton were all out for 89 in the 38th over.

It may have been presumed that Westerdale would reach their target easily, yet they fell to 11-2 off 7 overs, with key man Adrian Dowson one of the wickets to fall. Castleton kept taking regular wickets, with Richard Thompson taking 4, until Westerdale were 8 down when they reached their total with only 3 overs to spare.

Castleton 89ao 38 overs Westerdale 90-8 37 overs

MoM - Andy Fowles - drafted in as WK, conceded no byes and took a spectacular catch.
